Sky Song

Lyrics

Verse 1

Periwinkle canvas,

The dawn has just arrived.

Yellow, salmon, pink pastel

Life has been revived.

Airplane trails cross the sky,

The world is waking up.

One bird sings with no reply

And coffee fills your cup.

Chorus

Sunrise, sunset

Lord you're painting all these colors for my eyes

Sunrise, sunset

Lord you're painting all the moments of our lives.

Verse 2

Mauve and heather canvas,

The stars come into view.

Crimson, ginger, tuscan sun

All in golden hue.

Front porch lights are turning on

The moon now says "hello".

Hopeful sun is never gone

but reflected in its glow.

Chorus

Verse 3

I am not the painter,

I'm not even the paint.

I'm just a blank slate

And I sit here and wait.

I wait for the Artist

To pick up the brush,

And I can't rush

What He will create.

Chorus

Story

In my last semester of college, I made daily early morning commutes to work. Each sunrise reminded me of the hope I have that God's mercies are new each morning. As I drove, I'd try to name all of the colors I saw, but could never truly capture the lovely peace in the early morning dawn. This song is merely a snapshot of all the beautiful things God has let me witness in His creation, and the simple joys He has in store for us each day.
